Valentine’s Day and Self-Love: Strengthening Your Relationships by Starting with Yourself.

The history of Valentine’s Day dates back to ancient Rome. While there are multiple versions, one of the most well-known tells the story of a priest named Valentine who defied the emperor’s marriage ban by secretly officiating weddings. It is said that before his execution, he left a note for the jailer’s daughter, signing it: "Your Valentine." Over time, this story became romanticized, giving rise to the tradition of exchanging letters and gifts on this day of love and friendship.


Although Valentine’s Day is often associated with romantic love, this date can awaken many emotions. For many, it is a time of celebration, but for others, it may bring feelings of nostalgia, anxiety, or loneliness. Popular culture has led us to believe that true love only exists in romantic relationships, leaving out a fundamental truth: love also begins within ourselves.


Today, I want to invite you to redefine this date and remember that love is not exclusive to romance; it is a powerful energy that manifests in all our relationships, especially the one we have with ourselves.


Self-Love: The Foundation of All Relationships.


Many of us long for love stories worthy of a movie, yet we often neglect the most important relationship of all: the one we have with ourselves. Self-love influences how we connect with others, the decisions we make, and the quality of our relationships.

On my journey, I have had to confront this reality and learn to take care of myself the way I would like others to. I realized that if I love flowers, I can buy them for myself instead of waiting for someone else to do it. I learned to treat myself kindly, value my time, and enjoy my own company.

💜 Listen to your inner dialogue: Do you speak to yourself with kindness or harsh criticism? Imagine you are talking to your best friend. Treat yourself with the same compassion and respect.


💜 Question your beliefs: Are there ideas about yourself that limit your happiness? Many of our insecurities come from past experiences. Allow yourself to reframe them and create a new narrative about who you are.


Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Yourself.


This February, give yourself moments of self-love. Take yourself out to dinner, buy that special gift, or write a letter to remind yourself of how valuable you are. Become your own greatest love.
